    2009/10 Federal Budget

    The much anticipated 2009-2010 federal budget has introduced some significant changes that should have a mostly positive impact on the Property Industry.
    If you own or are involved in the operation of a commercial office building then you may be eligible for a grant under the Green Building Fund.
    Further to our November 2008 edition of Moore Property News, the ATO has released GSTR 2008/D5 ‘New residential premises and adjustments for changes in extent of creditable purpose’ to announce its view on adjustments required under Division 129 of the GST Act for a change in the extent of creditable purpose arising in relation to acquisitions made in constructing new residential premises.
    The Queensland Government has proposed removing the prohibition on recovering Land Tax from certain lessees.

    The National Rental Affordability Scheme is an Australian Government initiative to stimulate the supply of up to 50,000 new affordable rental dwellings at a cost of $623 million over the next four years.

    The NSW Treasurer, Eric Roozendahl yesterday released a mini-budget in which the State’s budget position has moved from a projected surplus of $700 million at the time of the 07/08 Budget to a $917 million deficit disclosed in the mini-budget.
    Tax Laws Amendment (2008 Measures No 5) Bill 2008 (the “Bill”) was introduced into Parliament on 25 September 2008, it included changes that were intended to make it easier for managed funds to comply with the law by reducing the scope for them to inadvertently breach Division 6C (i.e. the public trading trust rules that can tax a trust as a company).
    Announced in the 2008/09 Federal Budget were a raft of measures aimed at improving the integrity of the Australian Taxation System.
