Carbon Emissions Update

The Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CRPS) will put a price on carbon in a systematic way throughout the economy. It employs a ‘cap and trade’ emissions trading mechanism to limit carbon pollution.  Before the CPRS can start, a rigorous reporting and verification system will be put in place.  To this effect, the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER Act) has established a national regulatory framework for entities to report their greenhouse gas emissions, reductions, removals, offsets and consumption.

    Australia’s carbon future

Since the initial adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 the issue of climate change has been a prominent media topic and a widely debated issue throughout international politics. With the formal commencement of the Protocol in 2005 the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme was enacted, covering some 10,000 entities in the energy and industrial sectors.
The Federal Government has released its long awaited white paper for its Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS).
