On 16 November, the ATO gazetted a notice indicating that it will undertake data matching program in order to identify potential non compliance with Australia’s taxation laws.
The ATO will request and collect names and addresses of entities within the State’s and Territory’s WorkCover Authority for the 2010 financial year from the following sources:
- WorkSafe Victoria
- WorkCover South Australia
- WorkCover New South Wales
- WorkCover Queensland
- WorkCover Western Australia
- WorkCover Northern Territory
- WorkCover Australian Capital Territory
- WorkCover Tasmania
These will be electronically matched with certain sections of ATO data holdings to identify non compliance by employers with lodgement and payment obligations under taxation law.
Records relating to more than 20,000 individuals registered with all the WorkCover Authorities will be matched.
The intention of the program is to:
- to address non compliance with lodgement and debt payment through electronic bulk matching data to identify potential ATO activity; and
- to be more strategic in its approach to ATO business activities.
