It’s this time of year that we traditionally reflect on the year gone by and look ahead to what’s in store in the coming year.

Australia’s economy continued to outperform markets around the world in 2010, but conditions remain tough both here and especially overseas.

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. This rings very true for our member firms around the country and around the globe who are working with clients across a wide range of industries to find new ways to succeed and grow their businesses in tough and unforgiving times.

Our auditors too are working hard to ensure they and their clients are ready for the new Clarity Auditing Standards, with Moore Stephens completing a 12-month project to ensure we are offering market-leading assurance services as the regulatory environment becomes more and more complex.

In this final edition of The Bottom Line for 2010 some of the issues we look at include property developers and GST, Director Penalty Notices and the Export Market Development Grants scheme.

It is also my great pleasure to welcome to the Moore Stephens network the seven member firms of the Markhams network in New Zealand. With the addition of the Markhams network we now have member firms in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Wanganui. The New Zealand member firms comprise 30 partners, 175 staff and annual turnover in excess of NZ$25 million. They bring to the network outstanding expertise and technical know-how and a well deserved reputation in their markets for quality work and successful outcomes for their clients.
