"Business intelligence" is a term that in the technical world has had an evolving definition over the last couple of decades. Essentially, our Moore Stephens Progress Technology (MSPT) BI team builds systems that make complex, multi-dimensional data available in an easy-to-get-at form for analysis and reporting. Predominantly, this information is used for support of decision-making processes at the tactical and strategic planning levels.

By way of example, we are extending the BI/reporting systems at Australian Catholic University to provide analysis of student load data and students’ financial transactions, as well as implementing a dashboard mechanism with Microsoft’s PerformancePoint Server. This is in addition to the financial analytic/reporting system that is currently delivering some 3,500 reports to 150 users around the University campuses.

We are also currently implementing BI for a manufacturing company to provide a variety of static and interactive reporting and analytic capabilities in the areas of production, sales and logistics. The data is drawn from a combination of the Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP system and a real-time manufacturing control system attached to the machines in the factory.
MSPT has also partnered with Strategy Companion, to re-distribute the Analyzer product in Australia, as a front-end tool
to Microsoft’s SQL Server Analysis Services cubes.

Analyzer is a very cost-effective, flexible tool (slice/dice, drill-down, charts, scorecards, etc) that has now been adopted by some of our clients including Hallmark International which has built a new enterprise dashboard with Analyzer, replacing an earlier system and a large, metropolitan, local government council that is developing a system using Analyzer to assist with analysis of water delivery and consumption patterns.

Should your organisation have the need to simplify and enhance its reporting framework or to see if BI can be used for better decision making, contact either Jean-Claude Cesario (03) 9614 4444 (Melbourne) or Martin Harmelin (03) 9614 4444 (will be redirected to Sydney).
